Extraordinary Richmond 2027

Give yourself a weekend to think about the life you are building.

12–15 February 2027 · Richmond, Virginia

Most days, you are busy living your life. When do you get the space to step back and ask what you want from it?

Join Alan and Katie Donegan and Brad Barrett from ChooseFI for powerful ideas, guided reflection, honest conversations and time with people who are consciously creating their own lives.

Come curious. You do not need to have everything figured out.

Why come in person?

A whole weekend for the questions that keep getting postponed.

We teach financial independence and life design for free online. You can explore Rebel Finance School and our Extraordinary Life Course from home. We want those ideas to be available whether or not you ever buy a ticket.

So why come to Richmond? Because learning about your life in spare moments is different from giving yourself a whole weekend to think about it, with guidance and other people in the room.

Make time for your life

Step away from work, chores and messages long enough to ask questions that daily life keeps pushing aside.

Think with other people

Hear how others see the world, test your assumptions and have conversations you might not have at home.

Turn ideas into choices

Work through questions and exercises together, then give yourself space to decide what is useful for your own life.

Have fun along the way

Enjoy the activities, laughter and conversations between sessions. This is a weekend with people, not just a weekend of presentations.

The ideas are free. The ticket is for the time, guidance, connection and experience of being there together.

Inside the weekend

Big ideas. Time to think. People to think with.

Alan and Katie bring teaching and questions into the room, then give you time to explore what those ideas mean for your life. This is not a weekend of being talked at from morning to night.

Talk things through, try a new perspective, make a small decision or simply notice a question worth taking home. And make room for fun while you do it.

The plan so far

Weekend schedule: the high-level version.

Here is the shape of the weekend we are planning. The programme, sessions and timings will develop as we get closer, and we will update this page with more detail. Friday is optional; Monday morning is part of the main event.

Friday (optional)

Evening

Welcome social and a chance to meet people before the workshops begin.

Saturday

Morning

Welcome, core teaching and questions about the paths and rules we have inherited.

Afternoon

Workshops, reflection and conversations about what matters now.

Evening

Activities, connection and fun together.

Sunday

Morning

More ideas, conversations and time to explore different perspectives.

Afternoon

Guided exercises and space to think about what you might create next.

Evening

Community time and shared celebration. We hope to make room for participant stories and short talks again.

Monday

Morning

Closing session: bring the ideas together and choose something to try in real life.

Afterwards

Wrap up around midday. Final times will be confirmed nearer the event.

This is a working outline, not a fixed session timetable. A live podcast recording, guest sessions and individual activities will be announced only if confirmed.

The people

Come on your own. Bring someone. Either way, you belong.

Extraordinary welcomes people at different stages of financial independence. You might be starting out, getting closer, or asking what comes next. What matters more than your number is curiosity, kindness and a willingness to think.

You do not need to know anyone already. You do not need a dramatic problem to solve. And you never have to share more than you want to.

Come for the teaching and reflection. Stay for the conversations and connections that happen when people make space for each other.

Your hosts

Alan, Katie, Brad and more voices to come.

Alan and Katie Donegan

Co-founders of Rebel Finance School, bringing their life-design teaching, practical exercises and energy to Extraordinary. Meet Alan and meet Katie.

Brad Barrett

Host of ChooseFI and part of the team bringing the Richmond community together.

More to be announced

Who else will join us?

We are shaping the wider programme and will add guest speakers and their sessions here when they are confirmed. Expect a weekend with different voices and perspectives, not just a long list of names on a poster.

As the event approaches, we will update this page with the speakers, talks and final schedule. Until then, the confirmed invitation is to spend the weekend with Alan, Katie, Brad and the community.

Where it began

The extraordinary belongs to those that create it.

Alan repeats those words to himself again and again. We created these weekends to share what we have learnt about lifestyle design and to make space for others to explore what extraordinary means in their own lives.

Our first weekend brought people together to learn, question and talk about what they might create next. Meet Mr Money Mustache.

Good questions

Everything you might want to know before booking.

Do I need to be financially independent?

No. People at any stage of the FI journey are welcome. Curiosity matters more than your net worth.

Can I come on my own?

Yes. You can come solo, with a partner or with a friend. Friday's optional welcome social is a chance to meet others before the main programme starts. Each person needs their own ticket.

What is included in the $345 ticket?

All education, workshops, events, activities and fun across the weekend, plus morning coffee and snacks. Travel, accommodation and meals are not included; morning snacks are.

Where should I stay?

You arrange your own accommodation. After you buy a ticket, we will share places to stay and options to help you plan. Please wait for those details before assuming last year's hotel or venue applies.

What time should I arrive and leave?

The Friday welcome social is optional. The main programme begins Saturday and continues through Monday morning, with the weekend expected to wrap up around midday. We will publish confirmed times nearer the event.

Will there be a live ChooseFI recording or other guest speakers?

Brad Barrett is joining Alan and Katie. Additional speakers and individual sessions will be announced when confirmed. The 2026 live recording is something you can listen to now, not a promise that the 2027 schedule will be identical.

What is the refund and transfer policy?

If you cannot attend: Tickets are non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law. We are a small event and make commitments and incur costs to put the weekend on, so please buy only if you intend to come. If your plans change, you may transfer your ticket to someone else or resell it.

If we cancel the event: We will refund the full amount you paid for your ticket. You will not be left paying for an event we cannot run. Travel and accommodation are arranged separately and are not part of the ticket refund.

What if the event sells out?

If tickets sell out, we will replace the ticket-purchase section with a Richmond ticket waitlist. Joining that list will not itself guarantee a ticket.
