If, two years ago, you had asked the Donegans “have you ever thought of producing a music album or writing music?” There was a fairly simple answer. But here I am writing a blog post announcing our debut album all about financial freedom, financial independence and money!

Katie, our friend Finn and I came up with the idea of creating a music album all about money. Personal finance is taught through blogs, podcasts, books and courses like Rebel Finance School but no one has ever taught the ideas through music!

We decided to create an album to share the messages, ideas and strategies that had changed our lives for the positive in a completely new way. We broke out pen and paper, started writing lyrics and developing tunes. Finn taught us his process for creating music and we were away.

The three of us wrote the first song two years ago and now in March this year we are releasing a 21 track, multi-genre album all about finances.

Normally you get an artist who releases an album all in their style and in one genre like pop, blues or rap. We didn’t have any limitations at all so we decided to create rock, pop and even barbershop quartet tracks sharing the ideas of financial independence!

Theme: Money. Genre: Multi!

For many years Katie and I organised and ran the financial independence world’s premier event, Chautauqua. We loved running these events with our friends and meeting amazing people around the world. The last one we ran was in Villa de Leyva, Colombia and this random guy called Finn turned up at the event.

Finn was a Brit living in Canada and he had worked hard to get to financial independence (FI). After learning from the podcasts and blogs he came to the event to meet everyone and hang out.

This photo is when we first met in Colombia at Chautauqua. Finn was wondering whether to quit his job, focus on music or where to go next and I remember pushing him to go to Ibiza to work on his music.

Finn had been a DJ since he was 13 and had started creating music. He had worked on his finances and that was buying him the time to focus more energy on his music.

A few months later Finn sent us a message and asked us if we would like to write a song with him and he would create it for us. We talked about creating a song for Rebel Business School or the Extraordinary Life Course and I got super excited about writing a song about escaping the standard life plan.

We met up and wrote the lyrics together and then Finn went off and created the song. We learned so much working on that first track and developing the ideas through the creative process.

We had so much fun we started talking about the next track and the idea of a music album entirely about money came up. We were more excited than how Katie feels when designing a new graph and we started bouncing around ideas.

That is the start of the album. The first song we wrote has been released to grab our band name on Spotify and Apple Music in preparation for the launch of the album.

Our first single is called Live Your Life: Be Extraordinary. The idea behind the song is that following the standard life plan, working until you are 68 and retiring without health doesn’t always lead to happiness. You only have one life so decide what you want to do and go for it.

It’s inspired by the Extraordinary Life Course and all the work we (Finn and The Donegans) have done on our own lives to step away from employment, work to find passion and create extraordinary.

This song is written from the position of someone who has worked hard for years and has regret that he didn’t live his life to the full. He is sharing what he has learnt as he comes towards the end of his life.

We wanted to inspired people to make magic things happen!

We talked for hours about the band name and came up with so many ideas. After a while we landed on using the word Rebel.

Not a rebel without a cause that rebels against everything but a rebel that is confident enough to do something different and live life their way. To stand out from the crowd and do something different.

In that moment the Rebelutionaries were born. Now all that remained to cement the name was a band photoshoot! We happened to all be together in London. We organised a shoot with Kerry Barton who built her business after Rebel Business School and came on Rebel Finance School. We had a blast running around London taking photos! If you want to feel like a proper band do a band photoshoot!

Our first ever album comes out on 21st March. It is called Money Revolution and tells the story of someone on their Financial Independence / Financial Freedom Journey.

We wrote this album to be the sound track of working on your finances, that will help you all on your journey.
